Floor Covering Worker Certification

Our professional qualifications are your guarantee
that your project is done right.

While providing ongoing education and training for the entire FTI FLOORCOVERING workforce, the Finishing Trades Institute (FTI) also sets the standards of excellence in the floor covering trade by constantly allocating human and financial resources to review, update and redesign its curricula to meet the needs of trainers, apprentices, journeyworkers and contractors.

The FTI floor covering curriculum is reviewed by our Floor Covering Curriculum Committee consisting of top-notch installers, subject matter experts, major contractors, leading manufacturers, and curriculum design specialists who share ideas and resources to develop the final approved curriculum.

The curriculum committee ensures that the leading industry standards, such as the Carpet and Rug Institute's (CRI 104 & 105), are referenced and incorporated into all FTI floor covering curriculum. This training consists of the nine learning units of study that provides the FTI FLOORCOVERING workforce with certified knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to be the best and most qualified craft persons in the flooring industry.

Trainer Certification

The Finishing Trades Institute is committed to developing certified instructors for its floor covering education programs.

The FTI "Train-the-Trainer" courses at the International Training Center in Hanover, Md., allows the FTI to partner with many of the leading manufacturers in the floor covering industry to develop and deliver training programs taught by certified instructors.

Additionally, the FTI provides its instructors with a series of courses on Best Practices in Teaching Techniques developed and delivered in partnership with Marshall Community and Technical College.

These partnerships ultimately provide employers with craftsmen who are properly trained and qualified to install a company's product in an efficient manner and based on industry and product specifications.
